David Beckham is a midfielder for the the MLS club The Los Angeles Galaxy.  In 2009 he began also playing 'on loan' for AC Milan.  Beckham is a solid footballer, but these days you're just as likely to see him on the red carpet at a celebrity event or in an underwear advertisement as you are to see him dominating opponents on field.

Lionel Messi is an Argentine footballer who plays for Spanish La Liga club FC Barcelona and the Argentine national team.  He recently negotiated an increase in pay, making him the highest paid athlete for FC Barcelona.







3. Ronaldinho
   19 million euros
Ronaldinho Gaúcho is more commonly known as just 'Ronaldinho'.  He's a Brazilian footballer who plays for Italian Serie A side Milan and the Brazilian national team. Ronaldinho is widely regarded as one of the most gifted footballers in the world.







4. Cristiano Ronaldo 
   18 million euros
Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese footballer who plays as a winger for Spanish club Real Madrid and serves as captain of the Portuguese national team.  Cristiano has reached celebrity status and is often seen partying with celebrities.










5. Thierry Henry
   17 million euros
Thierry Henry is a French footballer who plays for Spanish La Liga club Barcelona and the French national team.  Thierry Henry is considered one of the best strikers in the world.












6. Kaka
  15 million euros
Kaka is a Brazilian midfielder who plays for Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team.












7. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
   14 million euros
Zlatan Ibrahimović is a Swedish striker who plays for Spanish La Liga club FC Barcelona and the Swedish national team.













8. Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney is an English footballer who plays striker for English Premier League club Manchester United and the England national team.
