Beauty is better than brains The age-old conundrum of looks vs. smarts has been resolved. As it turns out, attractiveness could be more important. A new study by Leuphana Universitat Luneburg in Germany has found that promotions, job perks and even salaries are tied to attractiveness – and, believe it or not, even more so for men than for women. Researchers examined 3,000 people regarding their careers while noting their attractiveness. Their looks were evaluated on a scale of 1 to 11. The results showed that being one point above average on that scale improved employment by a rate of 3%, while a five-point difference, which is basically going from ordinary-looking to straight-up sexy, has about the same effect on careers as having a university degree.
